Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan selected on Thursday two European advisory offices to carry out technical studies on Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam and its effects on the Nile water share of the downstream countries.

The decision was reached after marathon meetings of the irrigation ministers along with 12 experts from the three African countries over the past two days, the ministers said in a joint statement.

During the meetings, water ministers of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan selected two international consultancy firms to conduct studies determining the hydraulic, water and social effect of the dam on Egypt and Sudan.

The two consultancy firms are French (BRL) and Dutch (Deltares).

The three ministers agreed to contact the two consultancy firms over the coming few days to ask their opinion regarding their joint cooperation for conducting the studies before signing the contracts on this score in early May.
