Heavy Battle Erupts Outside Diinsoor Somalia

Heavy gun battle broke out between government forces, supported by AMISOM peacekeeping troops and Al Shabaab militants outside Diinsoor town in south of Somalia’s Bay region.The fighting flared up when Al Qaeda associated with Al Shabaab rebels attacked an army bases controlling by Somalia forces and African Union (AU) troops, residents said.

The battle lasted for several hours, with both warring sides used heavy and slight weapons during the ambush assault on the army checkpoint, sources have told Shabelle Media.

It could not be independently verified the exact figures of casualties on both sides and civilians from the battle.

Neither Somalia officials nor Al Shabaab insurgents have commented on the clashes so far but residents said that the situation is calm an things have returned to normal.

Diinsoor, a town where Al Shabaab militants were driven out by Somalia army, along with African Union troops in a newly launched military offensive.
