TWIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTER: Plenty has changed at Twitter through the years, but one thing hasn’t: the 140-character limit.

Now Re/code reports that Twitter is working to launch a new feature this quarter where the character limit may be expanded to 10,000.

The Wall Street Journal confirmed the news and CEO Jack Dorsey later tweeted about it, saying the move will offer more “utility and power.”

For Twitter and its advertisers, sure! For media companies, perhaps the feature would allow them to post articles directly to Twitter and share in the ad revenue.

Like Facebook’s Instant Articles program, that could keep people on the Twitter app, as opposed to Twitter serving as a dumping ground for links that push readers to publishers’ sites.
