This KDF Serviceman was captured alive

The Media wing of Al-Shabaab, Al Kataa’ib (a.k.a. al Kataib), posted heart-wrenching images of the dead, the dying and the captured military hardware at El Adde garrison in Gedo region, Somalia, on last Friday’s dawn attack.

Al Kataa’ib published 134 pictures of the devastation that was left behind by the attack establishing how the Kenyan Defence Forces manning the ‘camp’ were routed and over-run without much of a resistance due to factors the most plausible of which is the surprise nature of the attack.

Some of the dead can be identified by their bracelets, watches, distinct birth/body marks showing and what remains of their faces by close ones not yet certain of what happened to their loved ones. Most of the dead, however, are hard to identify due to the nature of their gaping facial wounds or missing parts of their skulls – or the positions the corpses lay and the angles that the remains were photographed.

The grisly and unsightly images are indeed hard to view.

Al Shabaab said the assault was executed by its Shahid (martyr) Salih Nabhan Brigade based in the ‘Islamic Walaayah of Gedo’, according to the labels the pictures show.

The labels also state that the massacre of the KDF soldiers was ‘in revenge for the oppressed Muslims in the Islamic Walaayat, the Northeastern Province and the Coast” – the latter areas mentioned being in Kenya itself.

The group further stated that over 100 KDF soldiers were killed during the attack. A number of armoured military vehicles, fuel and water tankers, personnel lorries and an assortment of weapons of varying gauges and nature were also captured, Al Kataa’ib posted.photo_2016-01-20_22-36-25

In a related story, Al Shabaab claims that the Commander of the El Addeh base fell in their hands and that they are holding him in custody.
