Although not yet officially announced, sources close to the presidency state that the President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Siilaanyo”, approved, Tuesday, promotions for officers and NCOs belonging to the army, police, and custodial Corps.

The President, it was revealed, put his seal and signature on one-step-up promotions for 140 officers and non-commissioned officers, including ex-commanders of divisions from the different branches.

His Excellency the President, it was stated, took this step to both boost the morale of the security branches and to, also, render the holy month of Ramadan a special place in the hearts of officers and NCOs who excelled so brightly in the course of their duties.

President Siilaanyo promised the varied armed branches that he would, for the first time, initiate a ranking system for them during his campaigning days as opposition leader – and he did.Today, the army, the police, coastguards, custodial corps and secret service branches properly show respective insignia for respective ranks – a development that has turned ragtag armed forces into  properly ranked, disciplined, awe-inspiring units.
