His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Silanyo’, called an emergency meeting for prominent business  community members of Somaliland to apprise them of the drought situation in Somaliland and to discuss ways to rush aid to affected areas.

Following a lively discussion on the issue at hand, chaired by the President, participating business moguls contributed generously to the drought effort as below:

Somcable  US$200 000

Oomaar Trading Group    US$200 000

Telesom    US$ 150 000

Berbera oil group    US$ 150 000

Al Harbi Trading  US$ 80 000

Bahsane Trading  $50 000

Assorted personalities at venue US$ 5000

                         Grand Total US$ 1,035, 000

His Excellency the Minister of the Presidency, Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, reading out the donations, added that the money collected at the Thursday occasion at the Presidency would be credited to the National Drought Committee account for forward dispatch to distressed communities beset by the harsh clime who are in dire need of timely succor.

Minister Hashi stated that haphazard contributions from relief organizations must cease. Instead, he said, all aid efforts must be addressed to the NDC for best effect and better coordination.

Besides the Presidency Minister, a number of cabinet ministers and NDC members were present.

The Business community donations closely follows another million Dollars the government credited to the NDC on Wednesday.

The founding father of Dahabshiil Group, Mohamed Saeed Duale, and other corporate leaders of the Group attended today’s function at the Presidency.
