At the Somalia Police Transport headquarters in Mogadishu, ‘elections’ of the remaining seats for people who claim to be representing the people of the Republic of Somaliland, and supported in full by the United Nations in Somalia (UNSOM) resumed.

Despite the well-founded protestations of the government and people of the Republic of Somaliland in UNSOM and other international actors’ unabashed endorsement of ‘elections’ to the two Somalia houses of parliament, nothing changed.

UNSOM and its city partners in Europe are viewed here in Somaliland today as determined enemies of democracy and self-determination on which the republic of Somaliland was built and thrived on for the past 25 years.

The election of the Somaliland seats was suspended last week by the Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (FIEIT) following disputes and complaints which arose due to a political tug-of-war between premier Sharmarke and President Hassan Sheikh each of whom wished to buy off the ‘Somaliland votes’ for his own in the upcoming presidential contest.

Commendably, this time around, both the Mission of the European Union and UK in Somalia abstained from openly and gleefully showing their support of the injustice to the people of Somaliland which is being enacted in Mogadishu. The latter, though, retweeted – but did not add to – the Doorashada Tweet below.

The government of Somaliland has yet to credibly and loudly present its protestations to teh right desks and judicial systems of the world.
