Somaliland Suspends Resumption of Talks with Somalia in Wake of Latter’s Propaganda Offensive

Hon Dr. Saad Ali Shire, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Investment has revealed that the government of Somaliland has suspended the upcoming  Somalia/Somaliland talks saying that the current climate does is not conducive to the facilitation of such a meeting to take place.

The Minister appeared before the House of Representatives Subcommittee of Foreign Relation to brief them on the recent Berbera port deal in which Somaliland signed a tripartite agreement with DP world and the Ethiopian government. This tripartite agreement allows DP world and the Ethiopian government to operate and invest on Berbera port and corridor. The Berbera port and corridor are expected to boost the economy of the greater Horn of Africa region and beyond.

The Minister speaking to reporters after he appeared from the closed meeting with the House of Representatives Subcommittee of Foreign Relations stated that “The resumption of talks between the two countries later this month has been suspended for another further notice due to current which does not warrant the facilitation of such a meeting.

Hon Ahmed Abdi Nuur Kijanhde , House of Representatives Subcommittee of Foreign Relations during the press conference cited the reasons behind the suspension of the resumption of stalled Somaliland/Somalia talks was the recent statements made by the Prime Minister of Federal Government of Somalia regarding tripartite agreement with DP world and the Ethiopian government which amount to infringing upon the Sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland.

Last week, the Somali PM while denouncing the port deal fallaciously claimed that Somalia jurisdiction falls over the Republic of Somaliland.
