Today – and on broad daylight, Al Shabaab kills three civilians in a busy junction in Mogadishu, the capital of the Somalia Federal Government.

The three civilians were said to be traveling on a public transport minibus going to the Tribune area of Hodon district.

Witnesses said Al Shabaab militants armed with pistols stepped up to the car at the very busy Ubah intersection of Hawlwadaag district asked the victims to alight and shot them dead on the spot on full sight of everybody without showing the least remorse or fear of apprehension.

The assassins were accompanied by two others who did not show any sign of carrying arms – although they may either have been there to support the assailants in case they were driven to fight off government security forces or as informers to identify the targeted individuals.

The Somalia government, despite the support of thousands upon thousands of AMISOM troops, Americans and Turkish personnel, has yet to control the wilful killing of civilians, security officers, and public officials even in the capital. Al Shabaab has been militarily engaging the Somalia National Army and AMISOM on various fronts all over the FGS’s federal states from Puntland in the northeast of the country to Jubbaland in the far south bordering Kenya.

Today’s killing was carried out in a mode that was new even to the much troubled, conflict-broken, anarchic Somalia capital city that has seen little of peace or stability since the collapse of the central government in 1991.In other unrelated incidents, at least five other people died in violent circumstances in the same city, Thursday. A young cameraman, Abdirizak Qassem Iman, who was working for a Somali satellite television station, the Somali Broadcasting Service (SBS) died after his car was blown up. Four soldiers of the Somalia National Army (SNA), also, fell, to an exchange of fire between two units of the SNA in the Dharkenley district of Mogadishu.
