Police have arrested two suspects in Tala, Machakos County among them a prominent Machakos-based witchdoctor believed to be part of a car-theft syndicate.

Led by the flying squad boss Musa Yego, about 30 armed officers stormed the palatial home of Anna Mutheu at 11pm on Monday night in an operation that lasted until Tuesday midday.

They questioned several people including members of her family and workers in connection with suspected links to motor vehicles stolen in different parts of the country.

On Tuesday morning, local residents milled around the scene of operation after learning about the dramatic raid of ‘Dr Mutheu’s’ home by the heavily armed officers who drove into her compound in seven saloon cars.

During the 15-hour operation, Mutheu could be seen strolling from one end of her compound to another as officers watched her closely.

Addressing the press after the operation, Mr. Yego said they had arrested ‘Dr Mutheu’ and one other suspect who led the officers to the scene.

“We have found engines, gear boxes and 130 national identity cards of different persons in the house. We find it interesting that the IDs were found here and we are still investigating the circumstances under which they found their way here,” said Yego.

He said the two were being treated as suspects of robbed or stolen motor vehicles.

“We are warning Kenyans who intend to buy vehicles not to do so from the black market because a big number of stolen vehicles are sold to unsuspecting persons. We have also established many garages across the country are involved in dubious activities,” he said.

Yego said the two will be charged in court once investigations are complete.

Local residents watched with amazement as the famous herbalist, who has arguably been described as the richest witchdoctor in Kenya, was driven away.

High profile personalities including politicians and business people have been claimed to be among her frequent clients.

Mutheu, who drives in high end vehicles, is said to have investments in petroleum merchandise as well as commercial and residential buildings.

Workers who were around at the time said that the officers dramatically stormed the homestead at around 11pm on Monday night.
