US and UK intelligence agencies will begin conducting cyber “war games” to boost both countries’ resistance to cyber attacks, President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron announced.

Obama and Cameron made the “unprecedented” announcement Friday during talks in Washington.

“Social media and the Internet is the primary way in which these terrorist organizations are communicating,” Obama said.

“The laws that might have been designed for the traditional wiretap have to be updated. How we do that needs to be debated both here in the United States and in the UK.”

Cameron said that London and Washington need to “work together to defend ourselves from new threats like cyber-attacks”.

He said cyber attack is “an evolving threat which poses a real risk to our businesses,” adding this is the reason why Britain is “taking our cooperation with the US to an unprecedented level.”

He went on to say that this would enable the two countries “to stay one step ahead of those who seek to attack us”.

Under the plan, the National Security Agency and FBI will create a joint cyber cell with their British counterparts, the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and MI5.
