Somalia: Large explosion kills 2 people in Mogadishu

Large explosion has left at least 2 people including a passer-by woman dead and 2 others wounded on Tuesday in Mogadishu, witnesses said.The driver lost his leg in Tuesday’s attack when bomb explosives fitted into a car exploded in Karaan district in Mogadishu, a witness told Shabelle Media via phone.

The wounds were taken to hospital in the capital for the medical treatment. The injured driver is in critical condition, according to medical sources on Tuesday.

The government soldiers arrived at the exploded area and launched an investigation but No one was arrested over the incident.

Somalia’s regional Banadir officials were unavailable to reach on the phone for comments on the bomb attack in Mogadishu.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for attack but Al Shabab carried out similar attacks against foreign nationals and Somalia soldiers along with AMISOM forces in the country.

Last month, the group also claimed deadly attack on vehicle carrying United Arab Emirates’ diplomats in which killed at least 15 people including soldiers in the capital.

The Al Shabab insurgents vowed to step up its deadly attacks on Somalia and African Union mission for Somalia forces’ military bases in the country during Ramadan.

An AMISOM patrolling unit was also hit in Merca, Lower Shabelle, reports said.

No details have been released of the incident to shed light on the attack or casualties if any. It is only known that the targeted troops opened fire and continued to do so for several minutes more. No fireback has been reported.
