His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo”, sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump.

President Silanyo, one of the first heads of State to clearly speak his mind in the decisive election, said in his note:

“President-Elect of the United States of America,

Dear Mr President-Elect,

As the President of Somaliland Republic, I extend my sincere congratulations on your election as the 45th President of the United States of America.

Today, it is more important than ever before to strengthen and ensure peace and prosperity for all American citizens and for people around the world.

Mr President-Elect, my country and people trust that America, whose values of freedom, democracy and human rights have always been a beacon of hope around the world, will fulfill it’s global obligations and will continue to make a difference when dealing with huge challenges ahead.

Yours sincerely,

Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo,
President of Republic of Somaliland”

Speaking at the Somaliland Journalists Association conference, commemorating Somaliland Media Freedom Day, the leaders of the Republic’s national parties, also, added their felicitation’s to the President’s.

“I hope that (Trump’s) victory would prove one that further cements bilateral relations (Somaliland-USA) and the cordial relations between the two sides as I hope it to pave the way for an international recognition for the Republic of Somaliland,” President Silanyo said at the function.

Faisal Ali Waraabe likened Trump to himself saying that the American President-elect did not shy away from what ever he believed one – no matter what.

He also added jokingly that he was taken by surprise by Trump’s unpredicted win as the international media led one to believe otherwise.

“I thought it was only the Somaliland media that embellished facts, I now realize it is an international phenomenon !”  he said drawing, as usual, guffaws from the participants.

Mr. Waraabe was nominated as UCID candidate for the presidency in forthcoming elections on Wednesday, that same day.

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro”, Waddani Chairman and the party’s Presidential candidate, also, sent warm words of welcome to the US president elect.

The Republican Mr. Trump won, Wednesday,  by 278 electoral votes to his opponent’s (Hillary Clinton) – 218 – eight votes over the required 270 needed to clinch the Presidency for a runner-up.
