Islamic fighters are reported to have taken over control of barracks deserted by a Burundian contingent under the command of AMISOM at Ali Fool-Dheere village, only 12 kilometers north of Mahadday district town, Central Shabelle of Hirshabelle Federal State of Somalia.

The fighters had been running on-and-off skirmishes with the AMISOM troops manning the security of the area.

The Burundian soldiers are said to have abruptly left the area without prior notice or explanation to residents.

The Islamists, thus, took full command of the area without meeting any armed resistance.

Neither AMISOM nor the federal administration governing adjacent areas said anything about the change of hands in area security and governance.
