Somaliland President, Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo leading a high-level delegation flies to Ireland on Sunday morning while the president is due to make a short stopover at Dubai.
The Somaliland delegation flies off to Dublin following an official invitation from President Michael D Higgins (below) of the Republic of Ireland at Aras an Uachtarain.President Silanyo met with his predecessor Mr. Dahir Rayale at the VIP room while the two were expecting to board a flight to Dubai. Former Somaliland president Hon. Dahir was accompanied by the former first lady Ms. Huda Barkhad Adan and were en route to Dubai.
The president spoke to the press before boarding the plane and told that he is embarking on an official visit to Ireland after having received a formal invitation from the leaders of the country. Mr. Silanyo went on to say that he will hold talks with the president of Ireland and senior government officials of Ireland.
The President said his meeting with the Irish President will certainly focus on Somaliland’s quest for an international recognition and to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Ireland and Somaliland. He stated that he will explain to Ireland leaders on Somaliland’s case for statehood.
The president added that he will appeal to the leaders that he will meet with to assist Somaliland on the areas of development. He further said that this was one of the foreign visits that he used to travel to the world to showcase Somaliland sovereignty and what it deserves.
The President urged all citizens to observe peace and stability.
Seeing them off at Egal International Airport were, among others, the Vice President of the Republic, H.E. Abdirahman Abdullahi ‘Sayli’i’, the House Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Hon. Abdirahman M Abdullahi ‘Irro’, the Chairman of the ruling Party – Kulmiye – Musa Behi Abdi, members of the cabinet, honorable members of the bicameral parliament, the Chief commanders of the different branches of the army, the police, custodial corps, security and many more.
The president is accompanied by the First Lady, Presidential affairs minister, president’s special secretary, and Mr. Munir Ahmed Egal who works for Somaliland National Television.
