Somalia PM fires female ministers, president endorses move

The prime minister of Somalia Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke has sacked two female ministers from the posts in the outgoing cabinet on Friday, 24th June of 2016.In a statement, the PM has fired Khadra Bashir Ali of Education minister and Hawo Hassan Mohamed, Minister for Health and appointed two male ministers for the posts.

Mohamed Hajji Abdi Noor was appointed as the Minister for Health, while Dr Abdikadir Abdi Hashi  becomes the Minister for Education. Both new  ministers are political novices.

Meanwhile, Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has authorized the removal of the two female ministers from offices and the appointment of the new ones.

The president’s endorsement will come into effect from the same day of the PM’s decision, 24th June, 2016, according to a statement from the office of the presidency.
