AP The Samsung Galaxy S 6 Edge and Galaxy S 6. Samsung’s new smartphone appears to be alienating some of the company’s biggest fans.

After the company unveiled the Galaxy S 6 and Galaxy S 6 Edge at the Mobile World Congress on Sunday, comments flooded the internet with complaints that Samsung took away some of the most beloved features from previous Galaxy phones.

The Galaxy S 6 has a fresh new design made of all glass and metal. But because of those premium new materials, Samsung eliminated the removable battery, expandable storage, and water resistance found in last year’s phone. Those were some of the key features fans of Samsung phones loved.

On Business Insider’s story published Sunday detailing the phones, commenters complained about the lack of features.

One person wrote:

So they got rid of the replaceable batteries, waterproof bodies, and SD cards that Android fans loved, and replaced function with the kind of pretty form that iPhone fans love, on the ill-conceived hope that iPhone fans will move to Samsung. That is NEVER going to happen…but now Samsung just given reasons for guys like me to leave for other Android vendors.

On the Samsung subreddit, there is a lengthy discussion about Samsung’s decision to highlight design over some functionality. It started with the following comment, and overall Samsung fans seem to agree:

After watching the Barcelona stream, I must say that I’m pretty disappointed with how the new S6 looks. Some of the best features of the Galaxy line of phones was the removable back and battery, and removable storage, but Samsung has removed those.

What worries me is that this design philosophy will seep it’s way into the Galaxy Note line. I’m currently using a Note 3 and was waiting for this event to see how the design will look and the direction that Samsung is taking with the Galaxy line, but I must say that I am disappointed.

To Samsung’s credit, it doesn’t sound as if its decision to eliminate the removable battery will be a big deal. Plenty of phones like the iPhone 6 and HTC One don’t have removable batteries and can last a full day.

Samsung went a step further by including a special charger that can charge the Galaxy S 6 to 100% in half the time it takes the iPhone 6 to charge. It also has wireless charging, which will work with all standard wireless charging formats.
