The Governor of Awdal region, Director General in the Ministry of Resettlement and Rehabilitation, UN Habitat officials and the Mayor of Borame on Friday presided over the ground breaking ceremony for a least 215 one story housing units meant to accommodate Returnees and IDPs who are now living squatters in 8 locations in the Borama.
The Borame housing project is part of the UN Habitat reintegration and Improved Livelihoods for Returnees and IDPs in 4 Towns in Somaliland”, implemented by UN-Habitat in collaboration with Somaliland Government Authorities.
The ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony was held at the housing construction site located in the western fringes of Borame is a housing project which will house internal displaced persons is financially supported by the government of Japan.
The Borame housing consist of the construction of 215 one story housing units, with 3 rooms and a built up area of 10 x 9 meters (90 square meters) each, inclusive of a covered kitchen area, a pit latrine with septic soak away pit, a water tank and an open court-yard with basic flooring surrounded by a perimeter wall located at the dedicated resettlement area
Eng. Hussein Hersi Gudaal who is in charge of the project said, “We expect to complete the housing project within a 5 months period starting from March 7, 2015 to August and we expected to build 43 housing units this month under the supervision of UN Habitat monitoring team.
Hon Mahmoud Ali Saleban aka Ramaah and the Mayor of Borame Mr. Saleban Hassan Hadi on behalf of the people of Somaliland thanked the government of Japan for its generosity.
