Despite his poor form on the pitch, British record signing Angel Di Maria continues to be a success off the pitch.

The Manchester United winger, who has found himself out of Louis van Gaal’s starting side after a dreadful run of form, has his name on the back of more shirts than any other Premier League player this season.

According to sales figures from SportsDirect.com, Di Maria is way ahead of fellow Premier League newcomers Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa, with almost 10 per cent of shirts sold by the retail giant bearing ‘Di Maria 7’ on the back (9.59 per cent).

Arsenal’s star man Sanchez is second, with 3.8 per cent of people buying ‘Alexis 17’, ahead of the Chelsea striker, who is the third biggest seller with 2.27 per cent of people buying ‘Diego Costa 19’.

Five of the top 10 sellers are from Manchester United players, with David De Gea (2.16 per cent), Wayne Rooney (2.09 per cent), Radamel Falcao (1.99 per cent) and Robin van Persie (1.20 per cent) in the top 10 along with Di Maria.

Eden Hazard (2.10 per cent) is the other Chelsea player in the top 10 while Liverpool and Manchester City have just one representative each, Steven Gerrard (1.76 per cent) and Sergio Aguero (1.46 per cent).

There were some surprises outside of the top 10 however, with Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez the 11th most popular player in the Premier League, ahead of stars such as Cesc Fabregas, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Yaya Toure.
